Prologue to Evolution of a Goddess

Every day since finding out the truth of who I am, has been a real struggle for me. There’s no right or wrong in this scenario, it’s just what my life is. Not the life that I had dreamed of, but nonetheless; this is now my life. Finding out that I truly didn’t know anything about who or where I had come from was just the beginning of the struggle that rages inside of me. Who is who in this game they played with my life, better yet, who do I trust? My mother is not my mother, my father is a god with secrets, and my husband has given up everything for me. This isn’t what I would have dreamed of, this is a nightmare. No one knows how we are supposed to fight this battle, no one knows how this will end either. When you find out that your whole life was a lie, do you just sit back and take what was given to you, or do you stand up and ask for the answers you so badly seek?

This is where I’m at with my life choices. You see when you think you’re just a normal person like everyone else, and then you realize you are so much more than that, do you give in to the side of normalcy or do you embrace the new you? A simple life was all I’ve ever had. A simple girl from a simple broken home was who I was, but this was a lie. That was never my life, this goddess was who I was to become. The pain, the anger, it pushes me to become the goddess they want. Whether this new me is good or whether she’s bad, she’s coming for everyone who scorned her. Tired of being the damn pawn in this game, they called my life. There’s no love that they proclaim, there’s only greed; and who will win when it’s all said and done. I have news for them… This is my life! I’m taking it back, step by step, brick by brick, pawn by pawn, and whoever is left standing in my wake is who was meant to be. You’re either on my side or you’re not. The gods can only help themselves now, because I want my life back. There’s a secret I’m holding back from everyone, but with this secret I know I’m capable of much more than they know. If I tell this secret, everything could change. One night of bliss has led to this secret I now hold. There’s nothing like feeling all alone in a journey of madness, which is making each day harder to control my feelings. Rage develops inside of me, a dark place that’s becoming a welcome home to where my heart now wants to live. The day we left my mother, Elizabeth, has been hard. Finding out that I was never meant to be her child, building armies against me, just to have them turn to our side. When the truth was all revealed, the heart I had, shattered into a million pieces. That heart isn’t there anymore. A new heart has taken its place. It’s cold, it’s calculated and vindictive. Time has passed, and I’ve become wiser. If they wanted a villain, they have her now. They wanted to use me, they wanted to turn my life into theirs, well, now the tables have turned… Let the games begin and may the gods know that there is no one to save them now.

  Chapter One - Part one

Where do the roads lead now?

Sebastian hasn’t left my side in what seems to be days upon days now. He is there when I wake, when I sleep, when I eat, he’s there every time I turn around. He believes that there is something wrong with me besides being angry about who I really am. He isn’t wrong, I just don’t know how to tell him the truth yet. If I did, he would never let me do what we’ve planned. What I have planned is brutal and no one wants that quite yet. It’s not that I don’t want to share with him, but revenge is driving my heart right now. This secret that I have grows stronger every day. Soon all will be revealed, but for now, this war will begin and I don’t want to miss a thing. Payback is coming and I’m driving this crash course.

When all was revealed, my heart broke and made itself a new one. Nothing was what it seemed and now I have a new problem. Alex. He is now my brother? How could this even be possible? There’s something hidden in that. He isn’t my brother, I don’t feel the same way towards him as I do Colin. I feel another secret will be revealed and that’s going to do damage to this heart of mine once again. Why would they let us even be together on the choice they said I had to make if he was my brother? The gods are cruel to keep playing with all our hearts and minds, but this is what they do. They play games, shoving pawns around to here and there, hoping to take the queen or the king as every piece struggles to move across the board. One word keeps playing on repeat i
n my mind: revenge. It’s like a bad rerun of a television show. It just keeps playing over and over. All I see is red when I think of all who was involved in all the secrets. Red, pain, blood, revenge, anger, black hole, these words are what’s driving my mind. It’s hard to be happy when all you want to do is cause someone pain who has caused you pain. Yet, hiding behind this mask of who I’m becoming seems to work well for others. Alex has been a big help in all this. He is so mad he could spit nails. You can see the pain he has from being lied to also. All Alex has ever wanted was the throne, and now that’s all a big lie. He can never have the throne if I’m alive. Maybe he wants me dead, but good luck with that. Alex doesn’t seem to want that though. He wants them to pay for causing him torment through-out his life. All of us have always thought we were the captain of our own ships, but that’s never been the case. We were always the dockworkers, never knowing when the ship was coming in. Now, we no longer care when the ship is coming in, we are now the captains. It’s a good feeling in many ways. It’s what drives all of us, motivates our intentions into what will become a new world for everyone. Only one part that hurts my heart… Someone, others, are going to die, and we just don’t know who will fall in the end. Will it be us or will it be them? We will be the ones who are left standing, because you can’t fight something you never saw coming.

  Chapter Two

When you have nothing else to lose but your mind…

Why is it, when you feel like something bad is going to happen you try to prepare yourself, but there isn’t a moment where you ever feel relaxed? I don’t know the last time I felt a sense of relief. Ever since all this happened, and keeping my secret, it’s like living with a time bomb in my head. Time is slowly ticking by; while we wait to attack. We have an entire army waiting on us to strike at a moment’s notice. They await their orders. Do they even know what they are fighting for? They just know they are going to the biggest war the worlds have ever seen, and they believe they are on the winning side. Sebastian says that this was always their roles to play, I believe that they didn’t have a choice? If everything is already fated to us, then why don’t we skip all this and just take our places where we belong. Wherever the hell that may be. Sebastian has given up everything for this. His place by his father, he lost his mother too, and he knows I have a hidden secret that I won’t share with him. Right now, just doesn’t seem to be the time to tell him. I fear that everything will change once he knows, and it will, but for right now we need to stay focused. Focused on what is to come.

“You awake?” Sebastian’s sweet voice whispers in my ear as I roll over.

“Yes. Ready to start this day, huh?” Smiling up at him.

“I’m ready for whatever is to come, as long as you are by my side.” He wraps his arm around me, holding me tight.

“Then let’s begin, shall we?” I take his arms and push mine under his, holding him tighter.

He winces, but smiles. Ever since we became the gods that are supposed to rule the worlds, I haven’t found out how to control my strength. We unfold out of each other’s embrace to start our day. Every morning it’s the same routine. Shower, dress, go down stairs to check the board on what and who has moved where. Zack came up with this plan to start tracking where everyone is always so we can be prepared if they strike us first. Walking down Sebastian’s long staircase, there was an eerie silence in the house. This wasn’t normal. Every day since we decided to bring this war to them, there is always someone, somewhere in this mansion, moving around, protecting us from whatever may be coming. Today, not a word can be heard throughout the house. We stop shortly before reaching the last couple of steps, searching the mansion with our eyes, and not speaking aloud. We had become like ninjas at some point throughout all this, contacting our eyes, listening with our minds, versus speaking aloud some days. But this wasn’t normal for any day since the truth had been revealed.

  Do you hear that?

  That buzzing noise?

  Yea, what is that?

I got no idea. You go to the right, I will go to the left. You check the back.

  No, Selene we go together.

Sebastian, this is easier. Stop arguing.

  Oh woman, you make me…

We smile at one another, but he knew I was right. We would cover more ground if we split apart. He knew this house like no one else did, and I had learned most of the ins and outs of this place by now. Even the hidden doors under the staircase that no one could see without having knowledge of them. We slowly make our way to the bottom step, look at one another, then step down, moving quickly to each of our paths. He took the way into the living room. I took the way towards the back side of the house. Not a soul was insight. Moving quicker, staying close to the side of the wall, checking my flank side, then moving again, slinking across the hall with catlike maneuvers. Zack has been teaching us military maneuvers every day since we decided we were going to go to war with the gods. He was amazing at this, and to my surprise, I loved learning all the insides of the army of the gods. Turning sharp, staying low to the ground, I see a body through one of the windows on this side of the house. It’s moving slow, coming to the other side of the house. It’s crouched down low like me. Moving quickly, without any hesitation, I jump through the window, tackling the intruder. Holding the person’s body down on the ground, I yell for Sebastian.

“Don’t move!” Yelling at the intruder pushing his head down with my hand and my knee piercing his back.

“Selene, get off me!” A voice says muffled from the ground as Sebastian runs to my side.

The voice sounds somewhat familiar but muffled since they were eating dirt now from my hand holding their head down. Quickly, turning over the intruder with one hand, now my body is holding his with all my strength in my knees to keep him from moving. It was Alex.

“Oh my gods! Are you trying to kill me?” He asks trying to spit out dirt at the same time.

“I was trying to capture the intruder.” Moving off him, lending a hand to help him up.

“What the hell? I was trying to save you. Good grief, what do you have in there, a ton of bricks.”

  He points to my stomach.

“That’s very rude. I work out, ya know?” Trying to hide my stomach.

“You look great Selene, but that was a force I didn’t know you had, and when you laid down on me, it felt like a ton of bricks hit me. Literally. Damn girl…” Alex laughs at himself, still patting off dirt and sand from where I had held him down on the ground.

We stand there all staring at one another for a moment, then I notice their eyes; staring at my stomach. My nerves were getting the best of me, and my fears were about to become real.

  Chapter Three

When the secret is revealed, the only thing you can do is tell the truth, right?

“What are you doing out here anyways?” Sebastian asks Alex, while stepping back from the both of us.

“I was checking the house; it was too quiet when I got here this morning. Something is up.”

“Um, duh!” It really was weird, and he made me break a window for his creeping ass.

“Where is everyone?” We didn’t speak as Alex asked us, looking over our shoulders.

Deciding that we were in some sort of twilight zone, we make the decision to go back into the mansion and start calling on the others. As we step inside Zack stood in the middle of the room, blood staining his shirt where it looks like he had been stabbed.

“You need to go…” His words barely above a whisper as he falls to his knees holding his side.

Running to him, laying my hand on his right side where he had clearly been attacked. Pulling up his bloody shirt, slowly, it looks like a rare knife cut had gone straight through him. Leaving his side for mere seconds, grabbing a water bottle on the counter, I pour it over my hands, rushing back to his side. Laying my hands on his wound, it slowly starts to close, water glistening like a rainbow of glitter over the blood, slowly and steadily healing him. I didn’t know I was capable
of this, yet again, it was just my instinct or maybe it was something more. As Zack starts to heal, thanking me numerous times, telling me he owes me his life now, wasn’t what we wanted to know. He had been stabbed. Who could have done this and why? Was this how the war was going to start? They attacked us while on Earth? This wasn’t the place where the gods should fight, this was where the mortals dwelled, this wasn’t our home. It was theirs. Anger starts to boil inside of me as he relays what has taken place only to find out it wasn’t one of the gods, it was one of ours. We had traitors among us. It always seemed to be too good to be true, thinking most of everyone was on our side, and now we knew. Zack goes on to tell how a bunch of them went out for a last hoorah, so to speak, and then out of nowhere some of the Migades turned on them. Stabbing them with immortal instruments they had never seen before, killing some and wounding most of the others. Zack got away, but it was a close call. This was how it was going to begin. Someone, some god or goddess, had equipped the army with weapons that we weren’t prepared for. Someone had devised a plan amid us, and we looked like idiots. We weren’t aware, we weren’t ready, and they were. They had always been ready. Waiting, biding their time to strike, they were quick and deadly. This was the start and we weren’t ready. Sebastian and Alex’s faces were as white as a sheet. When Zack told us that Colin had been gone during it all, and that he didn’t know who was alive and who was dead it was like they had just been stabbed in the gut. Alex kept repeating Cali’s name, and Sebastian started pacing the floor, making indents in the flooring. This was unexpected, and we thought we had time, we thought we had soldiers to help, but it looked like they had moved the board game. This war was starting here, on Earth, and we were going to have to protect everyone and everything that was good on this place. Moving quickly, I grabbed Zack and took him to the board he had set up, erasing everything and starting over from scratch. We needed to know who was now alive and who was on our side. I begin writing names with a fury, asking as I wrote each name where they were and were they alive as far as he knew. By the time I was done, we had lost more than half of our soldiers and it was up in air on the ones who were alive on our side. Iris, Cato, Colin, and Cali were the only ones we didn’t know where they were. As we get our gear together, Zack tells us about the weapons they had. Something that he had never seen except in old ancient books. There was only one person we knew who could have access to those, and Zeus knew we knew. We have on all our gear that Aries dropped off one day for us to train in, Alex and Zack take his beast of a vehicle; and I start the Bugatti. The purr on this car lets me know she’s ready for the drive of her lifetime. We follow Alex out of the winding road from Sebastian’s. When we hit the highway, I put her into her max speed and swipe right crossing two lanes of traffic. Alex keeps the speed with me as we drive faster and faster, taking the hills as fast as the vehicles will let us. It felt like we were flying, passing cars that now looked like tumbleweeds as we went faster. We had a way to go, to get back into the lower part of the hidden beach they had been at. We didn’t know what to expect, but we were coming prepared for the fight of our lives. As we arrive at one of our hidden sites, you can see bodies laid out everywhere. This wasn’t what I was prepared for, but this was what war looked like. The ocean was close enough, but there wasn’t a way for me to save everyone. Most were already gone as we walked over their bodies. Searching for anyone who could still be alive. Over each one, Alex would say a small prayer of some sort as we keep searching through them. Someone grabbed my leg causing me to jump back. Looking down, it was Cato. He had blood coming from his mouth and no words were coming out. I yell for help, as Sebastian is the first one there. He bends down, picking up Cato in his arms, telling him he was going to be okay. Telling Sebastian to rush him to the water, he carries Cato over his shoulder, running in a sprint to the waters that were rushing up on the shore. Placing my hands on him, not seeing where he had been stabbed, watching the water turn a red, then a pink, then the gold shimmer crossing over all his body. He was healing.
